🏉 Darren Crocker
Darren Crocker played for Scoresby before building a long association with North Melbourne as a player and coach. His senior playing career comprised 165 games and 119 goals between 1985 and 1998. Much later, he coached North Melbourne to its first AFLW premiership in 2024, after the disappointment of losing the previous year's grand final. The winning side went through the season unbeaten, with one draw. North Melbourne has also recorded his return to lend a hand at Scoresby while working as a senior assistant coach. That ongoing club relationship gives the suburb a sporting connection reaching well beyond his early playing days.
🏉 David Mirra
David Mirra's route to AFL football rewarded persistence. After eight seasons at Box Hill, including a 2013 VFL premiership, club captaincy and best-and-fairest honours, he was considering returning to local football. Scoresby was especially attractive: in Hawthorn's account of his career, he identified it as his local club and described discussions about playing there in 2018. Then Hawthorn's recruiting call changed the plan. At 26 he finally received an AFL opportunity. His story offers a useful counterpoint to the familiar teenage draft narrative: years of strong state-league football came first, with the prospect of returning to Scoresby still very much alive.
